Coach Gay was born and raised in New Orleans. She attended St. Gabriel the Archangel Elementary School and St. Mary’s Dominican High School. She received her BS in Health and Physical Education from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in May 1974.
Coach Gay moved to Houston in late 1975 where she began a career in hospital administration and earned 18 hours towards her Masters Degree in Health Care Administration. At Bellaire General Hospital, she was the Assistant Administrator over all non-medical departments. At Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word corporate office, she held the positions of Manager of Hospital Education and Manager of Support Services.
Coach Gay met her husband Bill while in Houston and their two sons, Andrew and Zachary, were born there. They decided to move to Slidell in 1985 and Coach continued in health care as Office Manager for Northlake Ob-Gyn Associates.
When her two sons started in Scouts and soccer, she decided to try to get back into teaching. Teaching fit more into her lifestyle as a mom. Coach Gay began teaching PE and coaching at St. Margaret Mary School in August, 1994. “SMM is my second home and the children are my family. I wouldn’t teach anywhere else. I thank Mr. Ohler for the opportunity to be a part of such a warm and wonderful community.”
